Romanian cuisine is a great combination of various foods from other countries, but it’s also somehow unique. The Romanian meals resemble with dishes from the Balkans (like Turkey), Central Europe (Hungary from the German and Austrian menus) and Eastern Europe (Republic of Moldova).

And Romanian grandmas are well known for their amazing way to make these recipes! Each granny has her own tips and secrets to turn a simple soup into a lovely flavorful sour soup (ciorba).

If you have an awesome grandma with an awesome recipe, we gladly invite you to join our #FamilyRecipes Movement!

Romanian Meatballs (Chiftele) via Jo Cooks

Chiftele are breadcrumbs or flour crust covered meatballs, and Jo’s mother made this recipe since she was a little girl. But wait, it gets better! Jo’s hubby is Romanian, so we’re sure that this #FamilyRecipe is in good hands.

Beans with Smoked Pork Ham via Romanian Mum Blog

Beans with smoked pork ham (or Fasole cu sunca afumata de porc) is a truly traditional Romanian dish. Otilia confesses that even though she makes this recipe very often, it doesn’t have the same taste as her mom’s or grandma’s.

Cabbage rolls via Home Cooking Adventure

More Romanian than this you can’t find. Sarmale are ‘one of the most delicious dishes that Romanian people prepare for family gatherings and especially for holidays.’

Romanian Mamaliga (Polenta) via Roxy’s Kitchen

Here’s a quick way to cook this cornmeal mush, Mamaliga – a dish that’s very dear to Roxy’s heart. Romanians usually eat Mamaliga with sour cream and cheese.

Ciorba de perisoare via Cooking Glory

Ciorba is a sour soup with various vegetables and meat, so Ciorba de perisoare is a meatballs sour soup. Remo grew up with this dish made by his mother.

Enjoy!
