Take it from my experience; it is not easy being a vegetarian; and things get worse when you are in a foreign country. Most of the time at social gatherings your diet defines you and let’s admit it, it is frustrating! Below are the 6 everyday dramas that us as vegetarians/vegans face:

1. Annoying Questions!

The things you get asked like:

So, you’ll eat at a non veg restaurant?

How do you get your protein?

Good Question! Did you know broccoli has more protein than a chunk of steak that you eat? And that there are lots of other real nutrition in foods like berries, lentils, nuts and green vegetables. So, if you are privy to such information, maybe you are not consuming required nutrition adequately! Any thoughts on turning vegetarian?? :D

2. Fake Meat options:

It doesn’t seem like we are making much progress in this area! Tofu/bean curd is the ruling king, and I wish it gets it share of Starks and Baratheon competition! Please...

3. Meeting other pretentious vegetarians, who want to flaunt it:

It has become like a style statement in some circles to be vegetarian, but unfortunately I fail to see the fashion element here! However, the thing that bothers me the most is, fashion fades away eventually, so may their decision to avoid meat.

4. Having nothing to eat at the buffet:

Especially at gatherings where where food is served in a buffet. People who are amazed by the concept of vegetarianism are the first to get their plates full of potato wedges, pesto pasta, 3 cheese sandwich…and more!

5. "Statements like 'humans did not climb the food chain to become herbivores!’ and ‘you don’t know what you’re missing!' & ‘It’s a cult!’"

Trust me you don’t want to talk logic with such people. Again, just trust me.

6. Paying extra for a vegetarian meal in a restaurant

I speak from experience that, following a vegetarian diet in some countries may mean shelling out some extra money from your pocket. Sure it seems feasible when a veggie burger is priced few bucks higher than a hamburger. However, if you want to have a few courses of vegetarian/vegan meal it may amount to much more than a non-vegetarian meal. This is a big reason many people refrain from adopting vegetarianism/veganism.

So kudos to everyone out there who are sticking to vegetarianism, no matter what. Here are some links that will give you easy & amazing vegetarian recipes:
