One of the nicest things about travelling in summer is that everyone wants to spoil me for my birthday. And that means eating out… a lot. It’s just the easiest way to give me a treat without having to pack anything extra in my luggage.

That’s how I ended up at Buffalo Wild Wings with my sister and all our kids. Well, that, and anywhere that serves wings is a good deal for my kids. Oh, and we had some cash off coupons. And, I had a mandate to bring home some Blazing wing sauce. How could we not stop there?

Of course, I was a little late because I’ve gone to the one in Mentor for the past several visits. But, my sister lives closer to the Willoughby branch, and I forgot they had one there until it was time to leave the house. And then it hit me.

But where was it?

“Oh, you know, by the Target.”

Yes, I saw a visual of Target in my head; it’s just that I couldn’t remember how to get from here to there. I have a difficult time making those connections in Joburg, getting around certain parts of NE OH is difficult. I had no choice but to pull it up on Google Maps and follow the instructions.

It was far easier than expected. If only someone had said, “It’s in the old Don Pablo’s building.” I loved that place (and have totally based my chicken enchilada recipe off of theirs). But back to D-Dubs (as it’s affectionately called).

As soon as I was handed a menu, I knew I was going to have a problem. Of course, I wanted wings. You’ve got to get wings when you’re at a place that was originally called Buffalo Wild Wings and Weck (and BW3s as a result, but no one knows what weck is, so…).

And they had a special, seasonally Strawberry Sriracha sauce on the menu.

But then, I also wanted the Bayou Po’Boy…

and the Mexi-Cali Street Corn….

Needless to say, I was about to become a gluten. And I would have consumed all three in a brave effort to grow a single pants size in a night. But then, we were informed that they were out of the Strawberry Sriracha sauce, and I could focus instead on the other two.

And they were incredible. (You should read incredible with definite syllables, mind you; in-cred-uh-bull!)

As we got into the trivia games playing on the televisions around the room and the boys reaffirmed their love of chicken wings for the millionth time, I began to realise just how lucky I am that people spoil me with food for my birthday. Truly, there’s nothing better. (Even when it’s not Steak Tartar, Duck Liver Pâté, or Don Pablo’s Chicken Enchiladas of dreams.)
