We usually spend a holiday in Sri Lanka at least once a year. That is the time we spend with family and friends while enjoying attractive places, having delicious food and of course it is a lot of fun!We had the same experience during last December and we had a family trip to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. If you love to visit ancient historical places, Anuradhapura is one of the main cities to visit in your travel to Sri Lanka.

There are lots of historical sites in the city which we cannot visit within a few days holiday. But we managed to visit few places and Jethawanaramaya is one of the places we visited in Anuradhapura.

Jethawanarama vihara was one of the monasteries for Buddhist monks, which was built in the 2nd century BC by king Valagamba . It is one of the major sacred cities for Buddhists in Sri Lanka and also a major place of great historical value.

Though there were lots of attractions of historical value in the Jethawanarama Vihara, we couldn’t keep our eyes away from watching what those monkeys were doing. They were spending their time freely and I could capture this lovely monkey couple!

Also it was the mango season. We could taste some fresh delicious mangoes among other fruits. This is one of my favourite fruits and I can’t resist the sweetness of Sri Lankan mangoes!

After Jethawanarama ,we visited many other places around the city and didn’t forget to enjoy delicious Sri Lankan food. Appa (hoppers) is one of the foods we tasted. If you visit Sri Lanka, don’t forget to try Appa(hoppers) which is crispy in outer layer and soft in middle. This delicacy can be found easily in any food stall or a high grade restaurant. Try it. You will like the taste of it! I am waiting for my next holiday in Sri Lanka to taste this again, though it is easy to prepare at home.
