We decided to indulge in a degustation at my friend’s favourite restaurant in Rome – Adhoc.

When we arrived, we were welcomed by very friendly staff. We ordered the 4 course degustation menu. It came with a starter dish of tomato & mozzarella, a simple but classic Italian dish - a refreshing way to start the meal.

For the entrée, we were presented with a “bento box” type arrangement that consisted of a beef salad, a crepe parcel and a fried pastry/parcel. All the dishes provided a nice balance of flavours; my favourite was the soft, delicate texture of the beef salad.

The next course was pasta. The “bento box” theme continued, and we were presented with 2 pasta dishes: a beef and mushroom pasta, and baby squid pasta.

The texture and flavour of the pasta reminded me of “Hokkien Noodles”. The mushroom/beef pasta had a good sauce, although it was a little salty. The baby squid pasta truly delighted the senses, especially if you like seafood….I found the baby squid had a much more intense flavour than normal squid.

For the main course, we had a beef steak with truffle shavings & vegetables. The truffle shavings provided an intense, earthy flavour to complement the steak. If you are a truffle lover, you will love this dish.

For the final course of dessert, we were presented with a trio of crème brulee, apple strudel and tiramisu. My favourite was the tiramisu - they had prepared it to order, as the coffee was still warm…

My only suggestion is to make sure you have a BIG appetite for the degustation meal, as the serving sizes are very generous…make sure you arrive with an empty, hungry stomach; otherwise, it may be a struggle to eat all 4 courses!
