Eat the Globe dedicates October to American Cuisine. The United States’ cuisine is a mix of styles and ingredients resulting in a diversity of rich and tasteful dishes and desserts.

There are many cultures mixed in together in the American cuisine. Each region has its specific dishes but there are also some traditional dishes cooked in every single kitchen in America.

If you love to cook American recipes, please share them with us.  You would also help donate to charity!

Things You Need To Know About American Cooking

It’s hard to establish a pattern for American cuisine since there are so many nationalities that influenced the way Americans prepare their meals.

We tend to believe that Hot Dogs and Hamburgers are dishes first prepared in America but they are originally from Germany and the American chefs adapted these recipes to be more appealing for Americans.

Another common belief is that American modern cuisine is based on fast food. This is just a common misconception. There are many people in USA who cook traditional American recipes.

As an example, meat and potatoes are frequently used in American cuisine.

Native American Food

Before the colonization, the Indian tribes that lived in the US lived off hunting, fishing and raising domesticated animals to provide food for their families. Besides meat, corn was popular. Native Americans ate their meals fresh, with no spices.

Introduction to American meat dishes

There are many types of traditional meat dishes in America. Some are cooked only on holydays; others are cooked daily for dinner or lunch.

Pork, beef and chicken are the main elements behind classic American meat dishes.

Of course, there is also the traditional Thanksgiving turkey and thousands of barbeque recipes with a high popularity all over the USA.

We are happy to show you some American meat based recipes that you will definitely appreciate:

American desserts

A traditional American dessert is the apple pie, baked on various occasions. The recipe was brought in the US by the British, Dutch and Swiss colonies during 17th and 18th centuries. As time passed, they gained a lot of popularity.  Apple pie became a symbol of America and now stands out as a traditional dish prepared with pride by Americans all over the world.

The evolution of desserts is visible in the US. Cookies, brownies and cakes are a big part of  American cuisine. If you love desserts, check these out:
