We were in the lovely town of Kyoto. Kyoto is a charming area, with its' many narrow long alleys that lead you to new discoveries...the perfect place to wander. We wandered around looking for some lunch and really wanted to try something local and different. We stumbled across a restaurant that displayed a nice array of fresh produce at the front of the restaurant. We decided to walk in.

The place had a really nice, homely feel to it; we were given a table on the first floor, up a steep flight of stairs. The place specialises in hotpots. We asked the waitress for some recommendations, and she recommended we try the cold yam noodles, and the tofu pot. We decided to try her suggestions and I also ordered a duck noodles hot pot.

The cold yam noodles was the most interesting dish, the yam was grated into a fine yam paste/sauce and served with udon noodles; it was a nice, cold, refreshing dish, and the gooey texture of the yam sauce was very different.

The tofu pot had a nice seasoning to it, it reminded me of the "fuyu" tofu used in Chinese cooking.

The duck noodles came in a light soup and came with a raw egg for you to mix into the soup. The raw egg gave the dish a thicker soup taste.

Overall, I really enjoyed the restaurant, it felt very local, and it was nice to sit on the floor, like a traditional restaurant... we also had a chance to interact with a local couple with their baby on the table next to us; all in all, a very memorable, cultural experience.
