It was time to take family to a special and classic pho place in Cabramatta. Pho Tau Bay is one of the first Pho restaurants in Cabramatta (it opened its doors back in 1980). It's one of my favourites. We braved the cold, wet weather and when we got there, the usual hustle and bustle of the place was missing...as only a few brave souls had braved the elements to sip on some wholesome Pho (ie. Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup).

Pho Tau Bay is a down to earth, rustic Vietnamese restaurant. Nothing fancy if you look at the fit out, but it's the history of the place, and the tasty food it serves that makes this place popular amongst locals.

We decided to try a few different dishes, and ended up ordering:

  • Banh Cuon Cha Chien (Mince Pork Rice Rolls & Fried Pork Cake)
  • Mi Do Bien (Seafood Egg Noodles Soup)
  • Pho Bo Dac Biet (Pho - Special Beef)
  • Com Suon Bi Cha (Pork Chop, Shredded Pork, Steamed Egg Cake, with Broken Rice)

The Banh Cuon was soft, and slid down your throat (it was just a bit thicker than usual but still tasty). The seafood noodle soup had nice noodles and a flavoursome soup base. The star of the show, the Pho had a nice hearty soup base, and we ordered the "special beef" version, so there were lots of different bit and pieces to taste (like tendons, tripe, etc) - it's worth a go if you want a variety of textures, and you like offal (or at least you're open to giving it a go). The pork chop rice dish was also tasty (so much so that I forgot to take a picture), the pork chop was tender and the steamed egg cake side dish was a nice, generous portion.

If you get lost in Cabramatta, and not sure which restaurant to try (there's at least 20 different Vietnamese restaurants in the area) - Pho Tau Bay is a good choice, considering it's one of the very first restaurants to open in Cabramatta - a suburb that's famous for being the "Vietnamese town" of Sydney.
