Last weekend my parents and I ventured to St. Petersburg, Florida in order to explore a new area and get some fresh air. I had never been there before, but my parents assured me that it was an area worth exploring.

St. Petersburg itself was delightfully scenic. The views were sweeping, the architecture was intricate and historic, and the colors were vivid and crisp. I enjoyed wandering through the area and poking my head in different and unique shops. Overall, I was thoroughly surprised at how many museums and adventure activities the city had to offer. Yet, more than anything, I enjoyed walking to the pier and absorbing the breathtaking appeal of the water. Birds flew freely, planes landed gracefully at a nearby airport, and sailboats glided through the waves.

My parents and I walked around the city aimlessly until lunchtime when we began actively looking for someplace to eat. Though we first hoped to find a deli or sandwich shop, we eventually settled on Fresco’s Waterfront Bistro.

Fresco’s was located on the water, next to a dock filled with upscale sailboats and yachts. We ate on the deck next to a large fan that cooled us down after a long morning of walking. The restaurant was surprisingly crowded for midday and was populated with an even mix of millennials, baby boomers, and families. Everyone at the restaurant was upbeat and friendly which resulted in the atmosphere of the restaurant being lively. Both of my parents were impressed with the restaurant’s diverse brunch menu and I was overjoyed at the menu’s delectable looking salad options. I am, after all, not someone who can turn down a fresh and zesty salad.

Ultimately, I ordered a spinach salad. My parents, on the other hand, ordered a ‘porky-pig omelet’ and a ‘shrimp and potato salad.’ I absolutely loved my spinach salad. Topped with feta cheese, candied walnuts, granny smith apples, oranges, and sun-dried tomatoes my salad was a palatable mix of flavors. My father also loved his omelet and stated that it was nothing short of heavenly. Yet my mother, though she liked her salad thought that the potatoes were a bit blandly flavored. All in all, however, it was a commendable dining experience.

Fresco’s is a solid and moderately priced restaurant for both tourists and locals in the St. Petersburg area. Not only does it offer good food, but it also has an extensive cocktail menu and occasional live music nights. I can’t help but think that it would have been fun to have frequented Fresco’s for dinner or just for drinks at nighttime. It would be hard to beat the view, the options, and the chipper atmosphere.
