The Hakodate Morning Market is a must see if you are visiting Hakodate. It is conveniently located a few steps from Hakodate Station. As I walked through the markets, I really enjoyed the hustle and bustle and the friendly vendors offering you generous samples of their produce. The crabs and octopuses were just huge.

I came across a stall that sold sashimi prawns, I decided to give it a go...it was interesting as these prawns also had green caviar like eggs, it looked a bit strange at first, but I tried a few of the tiny green eggs, and they were so sweet. The prawn itself was very sweet and fresh. We also came across another interesting sight, a lady making dried squid from scratch. She offered us a sample of the dried squid...it was still warm. The taste was so fresh, you could really taste the full squid flavour and it was not salty like the typical dried squid you often find in supermarkets. We decided to get a pack.

This morning market is a great place to visit to get a taste of the fresh seafood that Hakodate is famous for, have a wander and enjoy the different produce on offer.
