Frankie and Benny’s is a popular restaurant chain which originated in America but which now has branches on high streets up and down Britain. Started by an Italian-American family, they serve classic Italian dishes but with an American twist. For many years I was only under the impression that they served lunches and dinners, but I recently learned that they do, in fact, serve breakfast as well.

I’ve visited several different branches of Frankie and Benny’s, and I’ve been suitably impressed each and every time. It’s not going to win any awards, but this really is the kind of good food that ‘Mama used to make’. It’s tasty and it’s priced very reasonably, so you do get good value for your money. This means that it’s a great, reliable restaurant chain which is suitable to take the whole family!

In most of the restaurants that I’ve visited, they have a selection of booths rather than just round or square tables, which means that each group has a slightly more intimate, private feel. For the most part the members of staff have been friendly, welcoming and helpful, which is exactly what you’d expect from a restaurant of this calibre.

The Frankie and Benny’s menu is very well stocked. The breakfast menu is very well stocked, containing everything from classics such as fry ups or pancakes, to slightly more adventurous options such as smoked salmon and scrambled egg bagels, or even a breakfast pizza!

The lunch and dinner menus are just as impressive, with a good selection of pasta, pizza and meat dishes. As I say, I’ve visited numerous times, and I’ve had something different on every occasion. I’ve enjoyed every meal that I’ve had, and so have my friends and family!

I have always found Frankie and Benny’s to be very accommodating, no matter what requests or curveballs my group has thrown their way! This is extra evident when it comes to birthdays, which they are very happy to celebrate with their patrons. If you let them know in advance that someone in your party has a birthday, they will bring out a cake and play Cliff Richard’s Congratulations loudly across the whole restaurant. This can be fun, but if you were just looking for a quiet meal out with your family then it will probably be quite annoying – especially if several patrons are celebrating birthdays on the same day!

In sum, there’s not a lot that I can find with which I can criticise Frankie and Benny’s. The birthday celebrations are just something to bear in mind, but they do only last a few seconds. If you’re willing to overlook them, then the food is great, the atmosphere is fun, and overall it’s good value for money! This isn’t the most impressive restaurant chain you’ll ever visit, but sometimes all you need is to go somewhere where you know what you’re getting, especially if it’s food that you love!
