Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It's my favourite place to be; I've visited countless times and ache to return. One of my favourite restaurants to visit in this beautiful city is La Bussola. It's in the heart of all the action, but it's tucked away on a little side street, away from the bustling crowds.

La Bussola (which literally translates as 'the compass') is a wine bar, restaurant and pizzeria. It's incredibly popular - on several of my visits I have turned up one evening, only to be turned away because they were fully booked. Needless to say, on each occasion I was the first customer at their door the next night, as this is a restaurant not to be missed.

The inside is fabulous, unlike any other restaurant I've seen. They have what I can only describe as a 'pizza bar' down one side of the room. This looks like any other bar, except that it is specially designed for people to sit and eat their pizzas, especially if they are dining alone or looking for a more social experience. That said, the rest of the room is filled with other tables and chairs for a more typical restaurant. As with many Italian restaurants, at the entrance there is an area of outdoor seating - this is my preferred location, as it simply doesn't get better than enjoying good wine, amazing food and the beautiful Italian weather all at once.

With regards to the food, it is incredible. They have a fairly large menu, filled with all the typical Italian dishes that you'd expect. Nobody makes pizza (or pasta, for that matter) like the Italians, and the chefs at La Bussola are masters at their craft. The pizzas are baked in a traditional wood burning oven, which gives them a perfect crunchy crust and a delicious flavour. Their pastas are just as good; the smells which come from La Bussola are mouth-watering!

The atmosphere at La Bussola is so relaxed, but in a classy, chic way. Dining there isn't expensive, but it makes you feel classy and sophisticated. I've enjoyed casual meals there with family, but it also makes the perfect setting for more romantic, intimate affairs. Let the wine flow!

The members of staff have always been professional, charming and attentive. In fact, they add to the whole experience to such an extent that you really feel like you're dining in quite a high class establishment.

All things considered, La Bussola is a must-stop destination in Florence when it comes to eating out. It offers everything that you'd expect from a relaxed Italian restaurant, bar and pizzeria. I make a point of visiting every time I'm in the city, and I thoroughly recommend you do the same - you won't be disappointed. Buon appetito!
