I have never been to Tuscany before, so I asked a good travel agent friend of mine for recommendations of where to stay…he ended up suggesting a castle….and we thought…why not!

We left Florence and made our way to the Castle in Tuscany….after a while, it felt like we had been on this particular road for a while, and we were starting to doubt our navigation skills….we ended up following another sign that took us up a rocky, unsealed road…after driving for about 10 minutes we decided to stop at a petrol station and ask for directions….I jumped out of the car as my friends watched me approach an Italian man filling up his car with petrol….as I couldn’t speak Italian, I quickly whipped out my print out of the castle and started pointing at the picture of the castle - he pointed off in the distance, and basically indicated we just had to go around the corner…and bammm…the castle would be there…I grinned with joy and thanked him for his assistance.

As we approached the castle, we felt we had travelled an epic journey just to get here….but it was all worth it, as we passed the main gate with 2 large stone lions staring at us…

We walked up to the main entrance…and the door was huge! We could see a bell tower, a lovely foyer entrance and it was perched on top of a high hill, so there was a lovely view from the reception area....I could get used to living in a castle...

We spent about a week at the castle, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Even though the room furnishings were basic and there was no air conditioning (well it is a castle after all), it was very comfortable, clean and the ambience of living in a historical building was certainly novel and fun.

There was a cute little restaurant within the Castle and the 3 course meal was very reasonably priced, so we decided to give it a go. The food was rustic, tasty and quite homely; and the view was mesmerising as we looked out into the Tuscan valleys.

The room also came with a kitchen, so we made the most of it by going to the local markets to get some local produce…and the beauty of Tuscany is that their produce is so fresh and delicious, that we really only needed to slice up the beautiful buffalo mozzeralla, tomatoes, prosciutto, etc and plate up and devour!

To top it off, they also have a hammock in the garden overlooking the valley, and a swimming pool - staying at the castle was indeed one of the highlights of our Tuscany trip.
