Late last year, a new restaurant opened in Greenside… Momo Baohaus. It happened shortly after I started craving bao after watching an episode of Chef’s Table France featuring yam’Tcha in Paris. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to give it a try. Except, the end of the year snuck up on me. And, the beginning of this year started with a bang.
Even though Momo Baohaus is listed on my UberEats, I really felt I needed to experience it in person. It just seemed like an experience. But, it didn’t seem like something to share with the kids – and we hate going out on the weekend when it’s avoidable. So, the possible days just kept narrowing away.
Every couple of days, I would hop onto UberEats and drool over the menu options. They have Firecracker Prawns, Salmon Ceviche Tacos, Szechuan Prawn Wonton to start. The highlights are, of course, the baos including the Mighty Duck Bao, Lucky Bao, and Kung Pow Bao. There are also noodle bowls with names like Seoul, Bangkok, and Shanghai.
How could you not want a sampling? How could I wait?
And every day, the craving deepened.
It’s just that getting there was harder than you might imagine. The timing was never right.
So I gave up – not on the idea of trying these delicious foods, but of trying to get to the restaurant itself. It was going to be UberEats or bust.
And holy smorgasbord was it better than I even expected. Besides the almost perfect presentation of the takeaway boxes that arrived on the back of a motorbike, the food inside was incredible. That which needed to be warm was still warm; that which should be cool was still cool. And, you can’t imagine the taste sensation that came with every bite. Truly.
All my experience did was ramp up my desire to eat Mighty Duck Bao and Firecracker Prawns every day of the week. Yes, that good. If you’re in the area, you absolutely need to get yourself some Momo Bauhaus; indeed, it’s worth the drive.
