It was a cold, wet night, so there was nothing more inviting than a warm, European themed restaurant. We walked in and the restaurant felt warm with its soft lighting and the candles on the table. It was also nicely decked out with a rustic, medieval theme, I just love restaurants with exposed brick walls...it felt like you were taking a step back in time...

The menu started off with a poem, how charming...it gave a nice insight into how the name of the restaurant came about (Na Zdrowie):

There were lots of interesting items on the menu to try, after much deliberation, we decided on a few things. First, we wanted to try a traditional drink, so we went for the Kompot (spiced fruit drink):

The drink had a very unique taste, I really liked the spiciness of it, and also enjoyed the tart flavours from the rhubarb.

For entrees, we went for:

  • Grzybki (Fried crumbed mushrooms with horseradish dipping sauce)
  • Barszcz (Delicate clear beetroot broth with "uszka" mushroom dumplings)

The mushrooms had a nice, crunchy coating, and the sauce it came with was very appetizing. I really enjoyed the beetroot soup, it had a very strong earthy taste to it, with a slightly sour undertone, a must try for beetroot lovers.

For mains, we went for:

  • Schab ze sliwkami (Pork loin stuffed with prunes & served with potatoes & cwikla)
  • Assorted 'Pierogi' (Traditional Polish dumplings with tomato & roasted capsicum sauce)

The pork loin was moist, and the prunes stuffing added an interesting flavour to the dish. We thought we'd try and be healthy, so we opted for the boiled version for the dumplings (you can also have it fried if you prefer). We opted for an assortment of flavours - we couldn't decide - so a bit of everything was a good option. Some of the flavours were a bit bland, but overall an enjoyable dish.

We were pretty full, but there was still room for dessert (there's always room for dessert). We decided to try the 'Sernik' (freshly baked cheesecake with forest berries and vanilla ice cream) - the cake was light and fluffy and was perfect with the tart berries and icecream.

What a pleasant way to spend the evening, there's lots more to try on the menu, so I'll certainly be coming back again - great atmosphere, friendly service and lots of hearty food.
