Taiwan is heaven for street food lovers, as there are so many night markets to check out.

We asked the hotel staff for a suggestion, and they suggested we try out Raohe night markets.

When we got there, we were plesantly surprised that the night market was massive...it had 2 long streets of food, and many small alley ways...we only managed to go down one of the main streets and we were already so stuffed.

We tried a few things:

1) The Taiwanese have a traditional cuisine which involves cooking things in sesame oil (and wine) - there was an alley we discovered that was offering this cuisine:

We tried the special sesame oil/wine cooked chicken...the wine flavour was a bit too strong for me, but the same stall did some wicked fried rice, one of the best fried rice I've ever tried (here's a pic of their stall front):

2) In Taiwan, you can get lots of fried snacks...even fried milk! It tasted ok...sort of like gooey custard, not an amazing taste but good to try just for the fun of it:

3) Oyster omelettes are a crowd favourite so you'll see it at most of the night markets, it's one of my favourites as the batter is made in such a way that the omelette is chewy, it's very different to most omelettes/savoury pancakes:

4) We couldn't go past the giant deep fried chicken - the batter was nice and crunchy and the chicken was very tender, but it was so huge so I would strongly recommend sharing it:

The Raohe Street Night Market's entrance is marked by a huge lit up entrance, so it should be easy to spot:
