You have to get crêpes while you’re in Europe, don’t you?  It’s sort of like a rule if you’re in a French speaking place, right?  At least, that’s my thinking – and, apparently, my boyfriend’s too.  He brought it up early on during our trip and mentioned it a few times.  To that, I always replied, “we’ll get crêpes by the cathedral in Geneva.”

Now, I must tell you that I’d eaten in a small crêperie just next to the St Pierre Cathedral before.  But, and this is kind of a big but, that was over a decade ago.  So, I was really hoping that there was still a crêperie there.  I couldn’t be sure.  But, I figured that if there weren't one there, there would be one somewhere in the old town.

All we had to do was get to the cathedral, and we’d be set.  As it turns out, that was more difficult than expected.  There was a winter fun run and carnival going on in town, so the buses and trams weren’t hitting their normal stops in the old part of town.  And, it was a bit of chaos as we walked for awhile in the wrong direction.  But finally, we made it up the hill, and the grounds of St Pierre loomed in front of us.  Still, I was a little nervous as the runners flew past us and a happy crowd cheered them on.  After all, I didn’t know if there was a crêperie there – or if, given the crowd running basically past the cathedral, we would be able to get a seat.

Imagine my relief when there it was, the crêperie I remembered, right where I remembered it.  And even though the place was packed, we snagged the last, small table.  I was so excited (or, is proud the word I want), I couldn’t even figure out what type of crêpe to order.  As it turns out, I probably needn’t have worried.  That crêperie has been there since 1997 and next time, I’m sure to find my way to the cathedral a little faster.  As long as I don’t let so much time pass – and that might just be a promise.
